Obituary Dorothy C. Gottfried, age 99, of Upper Sandusky passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2020 at 4:00am in the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Dorothy was born October 7, 1920 to the late Charles and Gertrude (Riley) Sworts, both of whom are deceased. She married Harold Gottfried on August 1, 1940 at North Salem Lutheran Church, and he preceded her in death on January 24, 1984. She was also preceded in death by her sister Frances and her brother in law Lewis Gottfried Jr. She is survived by her daughter Charlene (Phillip) McGuire, Nevada, Ohio, and a son Lynn (Barbara) Gottfried, Upper Sandusky. Five grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren: Michael (Angela) McGuire of Spartanburg, SC, their children: Courtney, Sydney and Sarah., Douglas (Julie) McGuire of Nevada, their children: Reese, Grant and Kate. Joelle (Steve) Clink of McKinney, Texas, their children: Justin, Ryan, Jaxon, and Ashley, Jeffrey (Kerri) Gottfried of Bellville, Ohio, their children: Darian and Hallie. Pete (Dorothy) Gottfried of Upper Sandusky, their children: Julia, Kara, Eric and Faith. Along with three niece and nephews: Stephen and Ron Gottfried, and Gloria (Gottfried) Fraley. Dorothy attended Carey schools, then moved to Salem Township where she graduated from Salem High School in 1938. In 1940 she married Harold Gottfried at North Salem Lutheran Church where they were longtime members. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and participated in ladies circle. When North Salem closed she attended St. Paul Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky and was active with the quilters group. She helped make baby layettes, book bags and quilt tops. When she could no longer sew, she was the designated needle threader for other women. Dorothy also sang in many singing groups, including a quartet composed of her husband, along with her sister and brother in law, where she also played bass. She also enjoyed seeing her many friends at the Village Restaurant and journaling daily on her calendar, writing many of the details of that particular day’s events. She was always a worker and helper from helping her Dad milk cows when she was 5 and then her husband Harold with gardening and farming. They were always ready and willing to help neighbors, friends and strangers. She also worked at the Passet Dressing Plant where they butchered and processed poultry, Lyon’s Grocery where she made the best potato salad. Next at Millington Plastic, then the N.F.O. Office, and finished at Schmidt Machine Co. in Lovell. She enjoyed her many friends everywhere she worked. She enjoyed watching all the sporting events of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren through the years. The grandchildren loved to hear her stories. She left a forever lasting legacy of thoughtfulness, humbleness, gratefulness, kindness and love for her family and Savior to anyone who knew her. Services for Dorothy will be private at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with Chaplain Steve Sturgeon officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, Women’s Circle of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, or to a Charity of the Donor’s choice, and can be sent to Lucas-Batton at 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
