Obituary A long-time resident of Kris Jensen’s Ocean Pines retirement community Bob was born Robert E. Myers to J. Robert and Ellen Myers Jones in Marion, Indiana, where he graduated from Marion High School in 1963. Bob attended Morehead State University in 1965, then, after returning from military service, went on to receive a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN and a Master’s degree in Natural Resources from Ball State University. His service in the U.S. Army included a tour in Viet Nam (1967-68) where he was awarded the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Award and Good Conduct medals, among others. Bob is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy (Chapman); two loving daughters, Natalie Godfrey (Rodney), Russiaville, IN, and Erin Myers (Lindsey Elkins), Edgewater, CO as well as four perfect grandchildren, Mason and Taylor Godfrey, and Oliver and Rowan Elkins. He is also survived by his sister Judy Lebamoff (Dr.Nicholas) of Ft. Wayne, IN; nieces Cathy Spieth (Dan) and Laura Titus; nephew Craig Titus (Traci) and grandnieces Paige, Samantha “Quinn,” Sara and Kelly. His special interests in life were camping, traveling and sailing, but his true passion was researching his family history, a hobby he inherited from his mother. Bob loved learning and succeeded in his endeavors despite his challenges. He was an advocate for both ADHD and PTSD awareness and a long-time supporter of National Public Radio. If you knew him, he told you a story about what he had just learned. He also carried with him a vault of historical information and enjoyed serving as a tour guide both officially and unofficially in the areas where he lived and visited. He probably challenged you to a dual of wits in one of his favorite sports- spirited debate. Bob’s professional career allowed him to pursue his passion for the outdoors and higher learning and travel across the United States. He was the Parks Director for the City of Winchester, Indiana; Recreation Planner for the Dept. of the Interior’s Bureau of Land Management in western Colorado; Parks Director for Mesa County, CO; and Program Director and Acting Registrar for Colorado Mountain College in Vail & Glenwood Springs, CO. His last position before retiring in 2002 was as the Director of Student Records and Assistant Registrar for Ohio University. He was active in community service over the years, including Chairing the Rio Blanco County Parks & Recreation Commission in Colorado and serving on the State Board of Directors of the Ohio Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers for seven years. He was a member of the Winchester Bicentennial Committee and was a Lifetime Member of Disabled American Veterans. After Bob and Kathy retired to Garden City Beach, he served on his community Board of Directors and was active as Chair of the Genealogy Club. Bob received multiple awards for his work: Special Achievement Award, BLM, 1981, for his part in the National Wilderness Study; Special Recognition Award, Rio Blanco County School Board, 1981; Above & Beyond and Outstanding Service Awards from Colorado Mountain College, and an Outstanding Accomplishment Award, Ohio University, 2002 for his leadership on the OACRAO Board of Directors.
