Sheila’s Obituary Sheila Maureen Berley Moore, passed away on April 2, 2020 peacefully at home in her own bed. Her daughters Sara and Julia were with her. Because of the pandemic, her son Thom and daughter Tory could not be with them physically, but helped participate digitally in a vigil that included their mother’s favorite stories, songs, and TV shows. Born in Summercourt, Cornwall on August 8, 1939 (the very western part of the UK) – Sheila planned on moving to the US the moment she saw that all the American soldiers preparing for D-Day in her grandparent’s fields had ample supplies of candy. As a girl after the war, she loved being a part of a small theater group in Truro – where she made a daring entrance in one performance over the rocks at the Minack theater in Porthcurno. Sheila loved to talk about being a bell ringer at St. Enoder, following her father to various RAF bases, and her life in Cornwall. She trained as a nurse and went to London and worked in a hospital near the US Embassy, where she met a diplomat who hired her to come back to the US as a private nurse. She emigrated to the US and arrived on the SS America in NY Harbor in 1960. After having visions of marrying a strapping Harvard man with a chocolate factory – she settled for a wacky guy in a loud check sport coat who taught kids and made her laugh. She was married to William T. Moore for over 50 years. They were best friends who never stopped laughing and talking to each other – enjoying life to its fullest. They raised 4 lucky children in Haddon Township, NJ while Sheila worked at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. For many years they were active members of Holy Trinity Episcopal church in Collingswood. Bill and Sheila were the life of any party and loved to throw their own epic bashes that will long be remembered. They traveled to England, Scotland, Germany, Austria, Italy – and had one memorable sailing trip around the British Virgin Islands with a group of friends where they forced some other anchored vessels to flee due to their loud partying in certain harbors. No arrests were ever made. After retirement, Bill and Sheila moved to a small community for a while outside Lewes, DE. They made many friends and delighted many bartenders and waitstaff with generous tips. Sheila was known for her generosity, not just among service people, but to her family and friends. She was the first person on the dance floor, and the last person to leave the buffet. When Bill became ill near the end of his life, Sheila used her nurse training to care for him completely – while still throwing great parties. They moved back to Haddon Township in 2014 and lived in the Haddonview apartments. Sheila loved going to PJ Whelihan’s and the Pour House and loudly rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles. When she wasn’t at the pub, she loved a good murder mystery – whether it was a book by PD James or Ruth Rendell or an episode of Midsomer Murders or Inspector Morse. She could make a fantastic roast beef and a legendary plum pudding that could almost ignite itself. No one will ever be able to replicate her roasted potatoes, although we’ve pretty much nailed her Cornish pasties. Sheila is predeceased by her beloved husband Bill, who died on the same week four years prior. She is survived by her son Thom (and his partner Mariella) and her granddaughter Amelia, her daughters Sara, Tory (and her partner Deb), and Julia (and her fiancé Chris) and her 3 grandchildren Ethan, Olivia, and Alex. A visitation and memorial service will be held at a future date to celebrate Sheila. Arrangements by the FOSTER-WARNE FUNERAL HOME, Collingswood and Audubon, NJ. Read More
