Robert’s Obituary Traverse City – Robert G. Boochard, 94, a longtime resident of Big Rapids, passed away Friday, April 24, 2020 at the Villa at Traverse Point. He was born May 8, 1925, in Detroit, the son of Gordon and Elsie (Luke) Boochard, and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1943. Bob then enlisted into the U.S. Army Air Corp, serving in the Asian Theatre. He flew many missions over the “Burma Hump”, the main supply route from India to China. Bob was very patriotic, and was proud to have served his country. Following his discharge, Bob returned to Big Rapids and attended Ferris Institute. For many years, he was a mailman for the U.S. Postal Service, working in the city of Big Rapids. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks #974 in Big Rapids, and was a former member and deacon at New Hope United Methodist Church in Mecosta. In 1948 he married Marjorie Eastman, who preceded him in death in 1994. In 1999, he married Iris Fisher, who preceded him in death in 2016 Robert is survived by his daughter Robin (Bill) Fitzgerald of Grawn; his granddaughter Brianna Soli (Kyle); his grandson Neal Fitzgerald; great-grandchildren, Karlynn and Micah; and his step-daughters, Kaye (Richard) Ferguson-Patton, Virginia (Leo) Ferguson, and Carolyn Oeming. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Paula in 2016. Funeral services and interment will be held on Wednesday, April 29, at the Chippewa Lake Cemetery, with Pastor Kaye Ferguson-Patton officiating. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #98 Honor Guard. Memorial contributions in Bob’s name may be made for A.R.C. (Animal Rescue Coalition) of Mecosta County, or the American Cancer Society. Care and arrangements are entrusted to the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
