Robert F. Sanders, 88, of Murphysboro passed away at 2:25pm on Sunday, March 29, 2020 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion, IL. Robert was born in April 2, 1931 in Murphysboro, IL., a son to the late John C. and Ina (Edwards) Sanders. Robert was a member of the Murphysboro Township High School class of 1949. He began his secondary education in fall of 1949 at the University of Illinois majoring in accounting and graduating from U of I in 1953. In the fall of 1953 he was accepted at Harvard School of Law and graduated from Harvard in 1956. In 1959 he entered the U.S. Army and served two tours; he served as a Judge Advocate General and had attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant at the time of his discharge. Before his retirement and return to Murphysboro Robert resided and practiced law in New York City, NY. He had served as legal counsel for the Federal Reserve Board and later operated his own private law practice in New York City. In keeping with Robert’s wishes cremation has been accorded and there will be no public funeral service. He is survived by several cousins.
