Obituary Mr. Robert “Bob” Duane Malone, 84 of rural Gilson, passed away at 1:05 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born July 28, 1935 in the family home in Knox County, east of Abingdon, the son of Willard E. “Red” and Myrtle (Landon) Malone. He married Marlyn L. Kellogg on December 30, 1955 in Abingdon. She preceded him in death on April 20, 2000. He later married Jean Ann McCoy Williams on July 28, 2001at Calvary Assembly of God in Galesburg. Bob is survived by his wife, Jean Ann; two sons, Robert (and Terry) Malone of Galesburg and Richard (and Jerri Lynn) Malone of Abingdon; one daughter, Kay Lynn (and Sam) Hart of Granite City; six grandsons, Richard E. (and Tierra) Malone, Benjamin L. Malone, Matthew R. Malone, Mitchell A. (and Katie) Malone, Ryan S (and April) Hart and Bryan T. (and Hannah) Hart; 5 great-grandchildren; three stepchildren, Bruce Williams, Brad Williams and Michelle Williams; one step-grandson, Zachary (Laura) Williams; two brothers, Dale (and Janet) Malone of Abingdon and Donald Malone of the state of Tennessee; one sister, Joyce Simms of Galesburg; two sisters-in-law, Joann Malone and Juanita Malone; and several nieces, nephews and their families. He was also preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, Timothy, four adult brothers, Elbea, Kenneth, Richard and Willard, and two adult sisters, Dollie Brock and Mary Erwin. Bob grew up near Abingdon and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1953. He was a lifelong farmer and worked at several of the area factories. He also worked for Consumer Grain Store Elevator in Abingdon. He is a member of First Assembly of God in Abingdon and served as a deacon for 52 years. He also served as Sunday School Superintendent and taught the young adult Sunday School Class for many years. He liked to watch sports on TV and in person. He rode horses in his younger days. He enjoyed driving in the country to see how the farmers were doing and the changes in nature each season. He enjoyed his family and friends and his breakfast get togethers at Town and Country Restaurant in Abingdon. Due to social distancing limitations related to the COVID-19 pandemic, Bob’s services will be private at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg.
