Richard’s Obituary Richard Alan Hamm, age 85 of Freeport, IL, passed away at home on Sunday, April 5, 2020. He was born October 5, 1934; the son of the late Harold E. and Violet L. (Buehler) Hamm. He graduated from Freeport High School in 1952. He married Geraldine Mae Wagner on September 25, 1954; she passed on June 30, 1994. Richard worked as a mold maker for MicroSwitch for over 40 years, retiring in 1995. After retiring, he enjoyed being a hobby farmer in the Afolkey area. He also volunteered at the senior program at Highland Community College and volunteered for RSVP. Richard was also a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Afolkey and of the Eagles Club in Freeport. He enjoyed model railroads, cars, and making very detailed model ships and airplanes. He also loved animals, especially his dogs. He is survived by his daughters, Mary Jo (Dan) Schmertman of Muscatine, IA, Michelle Anne Hartog of Freeport, Lorna Lee (Kirk) Chezem of Ridott, IL, and Joanne Lee (Gary) Lamm of Orangeville, IL; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and dear cousin, Fran (Darrell) Ransom of Freeport. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Geraldine; and brothers-in-law, Donald Wagner and William Wagner. A private interment will take place at the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Afolkey. A Celebration of life will be held at the church at a later date.
