Obituary Phyllis June Ringgenberg, 99, died on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020 at AdventHealth Care Center Waterman in Tavares, Florida. Phyllis was born June 8, 1920 in Carroll, Iowa. She grew up on a farm west of Lake City and had many happy childhood memories as she recounted in a book she wrote called History and Memories. She attended Central School in Lake City and country school half a mile from her home graduating from Lake City High School in 1937. She went on to graduate from the school of nursing at St. Anthony hospital in Carroll in 1941. Over the years, she worked as an RN at the McCrary, McCrary-Rost, McVay, and Stewart Memorial hospitals and the McCrary Rost Clinic in Lake City. She also worked at St. Anne’s Hospital in Chicago and St. Francis’ Hospital in Mountain View, Missouri. On August 28, 1942, she married Duane Ringgenberg at the home of her parents just as Duane had finished Navy Boot Training at the start of WWII. Five children arrived in short succession. Typically, Phyllis would sacrifice much to meet her family’s needs. That included inviting a friend, Daryl Strickland, to join the family when his own mother died. Phyllis was an Iowan at heart, but also lived in Illinois, Nevada, Missouri, Arizona, and Florida. She was a Presbyterian at heart, but was also a regular attender at a Southern Baptist church in Florida. Phyllis was known as a kind, quiet, and lovely person who always had a smile on her face. She loved her family and was a touchstone for them. When their kids were still in school, she and Duane would arrange their work schedules to attend the activities of their children. She enjoyed reading, tending to her plants and bird feeders, and caring for her pets. Phyllis is survived by her children: Roger (Barbara), Virginia Beach, Virginia, Nancy Stickradt, The Villages, FL, Jan Ringgenberg (Barbara), Phoenix, AZ, Susan Strickland (Daryl), The Villages, FL, and Steve (Linda), Lake City, IA. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren: Ryan, Kieran, Emily, Carol, David, Julie, Chris, Nick, Wes, and Matt; 14 great-grandchildren; her sister, Marj Baumann, Lake City, IA; and a brother, Bill Snyder, Cedar Falls, IA. Preceding her in death were her husband, Duane on May 13, 1986; her parents, Charles and Vera (Wingerson) Snyder; and a brother Maurice. A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Garfield Cemetery near Lytton, Iowa.
