Daughter of the late Robert Scott Tomlinson and the late Martha Catherine Rosebrook, Patricia was born on June 21, 1931 in Elizabeth, NJ. She was married to Walter Thomas Gunther of Kearny, NJ from June 25, 1955 until his passing in July, 1999. She was also predeceased by her newborn son, Charles (1959) and her eldest brother, Robert Tomlinson. She is survived by her son, Lawrence (wife, Jennifer); brother, Frank Tomlinson (wife, Jeannette); and she loved and enjoyed all of her many nieces and nephews. Patricia graduated from Batten High School in Elizabeth, NJ and went on to earn a business certificate from Dover College/Business School. Soon after, Pat worked at Buick Parts warehouse in Newark, NJ, where she met her future husband, Walt. She also worked at Consumer’s Distributing in Union, NJ for over ten years and served as the Jewelry Dept. Manager for those last few years. Additionally she sold Avon for over 25 years and was a frequent inductee into the prestigious Avon President’s Club. Pat also served as Roselle Park High School PTA president from 1979 to 1981. Along with her husband, Walt, and son, Larry, Pat was a very active member of Community United Methodist Church in Roselle Park for over 40 years. While there, she ran the semi-annual rummage sale and pancake breakfast. She also was inducted into the Orchid Club when she turned 80, and participated in countless other church clubs and activities. One activity that she loved was going to the annual Ocean Grove Choir Festival, highlighted by the enormous auditorium organ and the encore rendition of “Battle Hymn of the Republic”. Pat got a big kick out of going on bus trips to Atlantic City, where she would get the occasional win on the slots with her roll of quarters, rave about the huge buffet of food, and enjoy the beauty of the ocean. In later years, she was an avid reader. Most recently, she was halfway through a 700 page Billy Graham book that she was reading for the 2nd time. Interestingly, she also read and collected many Danielle Steele novels. In the past several years, Pat became very enthusiastically involved in creating jewelry, countless ceramics, and other arts and crafts. Patricia loved life. Simple things made her happy. She had a profound spirit of exuberance that was felt by all around her. The extra treat was that big, beautiful smile of hers. Much of this spirit and smile can be attributed to her mother, Martha, and her Aunt (Tante) Corinne, who lived to be 104 and 107, respectively. Faith and love of God were of the utmost importance to Patricia. Throughout her entire life, she gave unconditional love to all of her family and friends. When attending the Christmas Eve service over the years and decades, her favorite and most sentimental part was the playing and singing of “Silent Night” with candles held. Most recently, Pat was a member of Belvidere United Methodist Church and attended as many services and social events as she could. Please consider making a donation to Belvidere United Methodist Church, 219 Hardwick Street, Belvidere, NJ 07823 in her name, and perhaps remember her whenever you hear “Silent Night”.
