PATRICIA’s Obituary On Friday, April 24th, 2020, Patricia Delores Hill (Janis) of Lindenhurst, Illinois, loving mother of four children, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a beloved sister, a devoted daughter, dear mother-in-law, a sweet aunt, and loyal friend, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family at the age of 94. Patricia was born on April 15th, 1926 in Waukegan, Illinois and her parents were Edward and Leone (Saunders) Janis. Patricia married U.S. Marine James Holloman (1945) and had two children, Michael (1947) and Carolee (1948). Patricia and James divorced. Patricia and U.S. Navy sailor Jerry Hill married (1949). Patricia was a military wife and traveled to many exotic places including the Philippines and Hong Kong with her family. Patricia suffered one of her greatest life losses when her beloved Carolee passed away at 17 years old in 1965 as a result of a tragic car accident. In 1967, at the age of 41, Patricia was blessed with twin girls, Michelle and Patricia Carol. Patricia raised them as an independent, strong, single mother. She was later blessed with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Patricia was proud of her Irish and Polish roots. She had a passion for animals especially her cats. She very much emulated St. Francis of Assisi and loved all animals and enjoyed leaving treats to feed the squirrels, raccoons, birds and all of nature’s critters. She was even nicknamed the “Cat Whisperer” as she had a soft spot for strays and would often feed them and take them in. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, game shows, bingo and slot machines and was blessed with genuine horseshoe luck. She looked forward to weekly bargain shopping trips to Goodwill and spending time at home with family and her cats. She had a love for antiques especially her famous blue dishes and wooden furniture. She enjoyed caring for her plants and had a fond affinity for anything nautical/ocean related Including seashells and salty sea captains. She was always a wealth of knowledge and experience on countless topics and was incredibly sharp as a tack. She was always ahead of her time and strongly believed in equality and acceptance for all oppressed people and groups. She was deeply empathetic and thoughtful. She was a true Aries through and through; bold, strong-willed, passionate and loyal. To her family and friends, she was known for her flirtatious, sassy, spunky quick wit and attitude. She was one of a kind, vivacious, cheerful, full of life and always remained youthful at heart; laughing and joking and being the life of the party. People were always drawn to her whether it was a stranger on the street or any sleuth of people she met along her journey in life and she could start up a conversation with anyone she came across out and about. Anyone and everyone who ever encountered her loved her immediately and she always left a lasting impression on them. She also “adopted” all of her children’s and grandchildren’s friends over the years and she truly was everyone’s “Gramma”. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved children Michael J. Holloman (Sharon), Michelle Christofalos (Danny), Patricia C. Amaya (Nate), loving grandchildren Michael C. Holloman, Sarah C. Tobola (Gary), Christina Neuman Berg (David), Jeannie Christofalos, Samantha Christofalos, Tabitha Christofalos, treasured great-grandchildren Thomas Surratt, Nora Holloman, Lance Tobola, Elijah Childs, dear son-in-law Martin Neuman, sister-in-law Mary Jo Janis, nephews WillIam Janis Jr., Steve Janis, and niece Suzan Janis Brewer, as well as her many treasured friends and the infamous “calendar boys” and her precious 3 cats. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, Edward and Leone, her brother William “Bill” Janis, her beloved daughter Carolee Holloman, her aunts Eileen Ash, Helen Lux and Helen “Monty” Montague, and her niece Sandra Lee Janis. Due to COVID-19 pandemic and the CDC guidelines, funeral services and interment will be private. A Celebration of Patricia’s Life to include all of her family and friends will be at a later date. She will be laid to rest in Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville, Illinois. Arrangements were entrusted to STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St., Antioch, IL 60002.
