Perkins, Sr., 77, of Pulaski, IL was called home on Friday, March 27, 2020 at Carbondale Memorial Hospital. Oral was born on January 13, 1943 to Ovier and Nellie Perkins. Oral attended and graduated from Douglas High School, Mounds, IL in 1960. Oral committed his life to Christ and was a lifelong member of True Light Missionary Baptist Church, Pulaski, IL. Oral was united in Holy Matrimony to Shirley D. Lane (Perkins) on June 30, 1973. Blessed through this union are his children: two daughters, Rochelle Perkins, Pulaski, IL and Rosemary Smith, TX, and four sons, Terence (Judy) Lane, Carbondale, IL, Oral Perkins, Jr., Owensboro, KY, Adrian (Gail) Mackins, Atlanta, GA, and Anthony Johnson, OK. He also leaves to cherish his memory: his sisters, Doris Westbrook, Tamms, IL and Peoria (Edward) Tucker, Pulaski, IL; his mother-in-law Phyllis Powell, Pulaski, IL; three sister-in-laws Brenda (David) Ballard, Pulaski, IL, Christine Reed, Cape Girardeau, MO, and Darlene (Larry) Winston, Mounds, IL, and three brother-in-laws, DeWayne (Kathy) Lane, Pulaski, IL, David Lee (Jean) Powell, Fort Stewart, GA, and Donald Powell, Hopkinsville, KY. Oral is also survived by his grandchildren: Tiffina, Tiana, Terence Jr., Jordan, Shanice, Jeremy, Justin, Adrian Jr., Devon, Dorian, Amere, and Adrianna, and by his great-grandchildren: Janay & Karter; special nephews James Madison and Eddie Charles Madison; special friends Lloyd Pullet Jr. and David Smith; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom all held a special place in his heart. Oral went on to serve in the United States Army for two years. He then made a career with the Illinois Department of Corrections, where he retired from in 1997 as Captain. Oral’s lifelong passion involved growing and sharing from his garden; he also loved fishing, hunting, and everything outdoors. Oral is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Perkins, both parents, 4 brothers, and 4 sisters. Services for Oral W. Perkins will be held Privately on Thursday April 2, 2020 and burial will follow in the Green Lawn Memorial Garden in Villa Ridge, Illinois. In Concurrence with CDC guidelines for the COVID-19 VIRUS.
