Michael Geoffrey Mogford August 19, 1938 – April 23, 2020 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| View Guestbook Entries| Send Sympathy Card| Memorial Donation Michael Geoffrey Mogford, age 81 of Alvin, Texas passed away Thursday, April 23, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his family. Known by most as Geoff, he was born on August 19, 1938 in Neath, Wales and was a resident of Alvin for over 50 years. He earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from The University of Manchester and worked for several large firms over the years, most notably Brown & Root. Geoff was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and Robert Mogford and also his Aunt May and Uncle Les who were both prominent figures in his life Geoff was an avid sailor and never happier than when he was at the helm of a boat, with a drink in his hand and in the company of good people. He travelled extensively in his lifetime, spending time backpacking Europe in his younger days and then living in Ghana and Vancouver before settling in Alvin in the 70s. From hitching rides across the Atlantic on a cargo ship, to a couple of lavish tours on the QE2 and countless hours sailing across the Gulf and up the East Coast, he lived life on the edge and always jumped at any opportunity for adventure. Geoff leaves behind a son, Michael R. Mogford and a daughter, Susan Mogford (Bowden) and husband Brent, 5 grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Colin, Michael, Anthony, Natalie, 1 great-grandson, Greyson, and numerous other relatives and dear friends. So many have remarked on how Geoff has influenced their lives and that there will never be another quite like him.
