Obituary Linda Cumberland Fields, 74, of Kingsville has passed away suddenly in her home of natural causes. Linda was born in 1945 in Kingsville, TX to William Arthur and Iva J. Cumberland and grew up in the Ricardo area. She graduated from H.M. King High School in 1963 and continued her education traveling to Corpus Christi to complete her Associates degree. Linda was happily married to Harry Eugene “Gene” Fields for 33 years and lived around the world and the USA before returning home to the Kingsville area to help care for her mother in her final years. Linda is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother Frank Cumberland. Linda is survived by her children, Sharon Johnson (Scott), William “Bill” Fields, Michael Fields (Carrie), Lynn Fields, Eugene Fields (Marie), and Sheri Fields-Palermo (Michael); her siblings, William “Bill” Cumberland (Marilyn), Allan Cumberland (Patricia), Gerald “Jerry” Cumberland, and Sharon C. Robertson; her sister-in-law Linda L Cumberland Kiem; her grandchildren, Ashley Johnson Rasmussen (Rick), Caleb Johnson, Jacob Fields, Trista Fields Kelley (Joel), Zachary Fields, Nicole Palermo, Julia Palermo, Christopher, Coleton, and Jason; and her twelve great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Linda is also survived by her chosen adopted family, the Massingill’s: John and Marie, John Michael, Clint (Jamie), and Kristina (Bobby); and her 6 bonus grandchildren. Linda, beloved Mother and Sister, was dedicated to her family and friends whom she loved as family. She cherished her role as “Aunt Linda” to her many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. She always remembered birthdays or special events by sending a special card, a personal text message or a phone call to let each know how much she cared. Linda will always be remembered as a caring, loving, and nurturing soul. She was always available to lend an ear to anyone needing guidance or just a friend to listen. Linda made it a point to take the time to help others no matter the situation. She was blessed with kindness, tact and patience that was often able to help others resolve their problems or reconcile their differences. Her family paid tribute to her, “Linda was one of the kindest people you could ever meet, she opened her heart to many, who became her second family, and she will be sorely missed.” The family will be arranging a Celebration of Life gathering at a later date, and requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either the American Cancer Society or to The Autism Society of America.
