Leila’s Obituary Leila Woosencraft, 94, Green Bay, passed away Friday, April 10, 2020. Leila was born April 6, 1926, in Bokosha, Oklahoma, to Jeffie and Maudy (Lohner) Thompson. Leila grew up in Oklahoma, the second youngest of eight children. Her younger sister Pauling, now 92 years of age, said Leila was always a character. She would often climb up a tree to try to get out of doing chores like picking cotton and working in their huge garden. She left home in her teens to clean cabins at a family friend’s lodge. In her late teens, she worked at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas, as a “Rosie the Riveter” during WWII. On Sept 8, 1945, at age 19, she married Donald Brunette, a WWII Army Veteran. They had three daughters before his death on Dec 17, 1966. On Sept 16, 1972, she married George Woosencraft. They enjoyed traveling and fishing trips in Canada. She loved fishing with her lucky “Shishkabob” lure that she made by combining several lures together! After George’s death in 1986, she became devoted to helping her daughter Sandy with the care of her infant son Jordan. Born premature, he developed Cerebral Palsy. Jordan became Leila’s reason for living all these years. Leila was always busy enjoying quilting and crafts, cooking and baking, bingo and slot machines and even gardening. She grew amazing tomatoes from her own saved tomato seeds. Leila loved picking apples with Jordan in his wheelchair and later, with the help of daughter Sandy, even did so when she also became wheelchair-bound. Leila is survived by her three daughters, Nancy (Randy) Mlot, Carol (Glen) Gough and Sandy Brunette; her sister, Pauline; seven stepchildren; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces, and nephews. Leila was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Donald and George; six of her siblings; a precious infant granddaughter, Katrina; and many other relatives and friends. Our family would like to thank the staff at Sage Meadows Assisted Living, with an extra special “Thank You” to Julie, who spent her time off with mom in her final hours. Also a special “Thank You” to Joann, their Activity Director, who helped keep Leila happy with her great sense of humor…….just one example, mom slipped out of her wheelchair requiring the paramedics to examine her. Afterward, Joann asked Leila “which of these three (male) paramedics do you want to keep?” With a big smile and outstretched arms, Leila said, “All of Them!!” We want to thank Dr. James Williams and Heartland Hospice for being Leila’s spectacular care teams, with a very special “Thank You” to Tracy for all her extra compassionate care for Leila and all of us.
