LCDR Henry Vincent DeWitt, Jr., USN, Ret., passed away peacefully on the morning of April 14, 2020 in Terrell, Texas. Vincent was born October 2, 1920 in Dallas, Texas to Henry, Sr. and Marie DeWitt, both of whom preceded him in death along with his beloved wife, Anne Gayle DeWitt, his sister, Virginia Marie DeWitt Cartwright, his brother, William Day DeWitt and his brother in law Jim Cartwright. Vincent was a career naval pilot having graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1943. He was a longtime resident of Annapolis, MD where he raised his family and retired from the Navy after 20 years of distinguished service. He was of the Episcopalian faith and, when his health began to decline, he relocated here to Terrell, Texas in 2017. A staunch patriot with a great sense of humor, Vincent will be missed by all who knew him. Vincent is survived by his niece, Ginny Cartwright of Terrell, TX; son, Vince DeWitt of Harwick Port, MA; grandchildren: Eva DeWitt and Fielding DeWitt of Harwick Port, MA; niece, Carolyn DeWitt Somerville, of Richmond, VA; nephew, Clifton Day DeWitt of Estes Park, CO; sister-in-law, Loretta D. DeWtt of Estes Park, CO as well as other extended family and friends. A private graveside service is planned for the family where LDCR DeWitt will be laid to rest at Oakland Memorial Park in Terrell, Texas.
