Obituary Mr. Mitchell Lamar Hawkins, 72, of Resaca, died Monday, April 20, 2020, at his residence. Mr. Hawkins was born in Murray County, GA, on July 12, 1947, son of the late Luke and Gladys Mashburn Hawkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Buddy Hawkins. He spent the earlier part of his working career as a logger and farmer. For many years, on the family farm, he grew and sold produce and was well known for his “Big Boy’ and”Better Boy” tomatoes. He had already started his plants and tilled much of the ground for this year’s crop. He was a graduate of Murray County High School and was a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include; a sister, Virginia Hawkins Ripley of Dalton, niece, Carla Ripley and her husband Roger Lawson, nephew, Jason Hawkins and his wife Candi, great-nieces; Baily Hawkins, Virginia Souza (Lucus) and Caroline Bennett (Paxton), two special cousins, Sharon Beavers, and Shelby Mashburn, other cousins and relatives. Due to recent concerns over COVID-19, the family will have a private ceremony with Jason Hawkins officiating, Friday, April 24, 2020, at the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Online condolences may be express and the guest register signed at www.maxbrannonandsons.com.
