Joy Hodges Thompson, 80, of 234 Thompson Road, Pelham, NC went home to be with the Lord suddenly on Sunday, April 19, 2020. Joy’s death was not related to the Coronavirus. Joy was born in Danville, VA on January 1, 1940, a daughter to the late James Richard Patterson and Connie Richardson Patterson. She had lived all of her in Danville and Caswell County. Joy was a graduate of George Washington High School, Class of 1958. She had worked in Yanceyville for Lea & Stuart Watlington for several years prior to becoming a full time homemaker. Joy was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church where she was a former choir member. She was an accomplished Artist along with loving to watch the older movies. On June 23, 1963 Joy married Joseph Reid Thompson who survives of the residence. She is also survived by one son Joseph Reid Thompson, Jr., (Ellen) of Oxford, NC, one daughter, Shannon Thompson Devine of Durham, NC, one sister, Dawn P. Scarboro of Denver, Col, three grandchildren, Jacob Reid Thompson, Margaret Greyson Thompson & Danya Caylin Devine along with multiple nieces, nephews & cousins. She was predeceased by one brother, James Clarke Patterson. The family is aware that there are many people who would like to attend Joy’s funeral, however, due to the constraints of public gatherings during the COVID-19 outbreak, there will be a memorial service held at a later date.
