December 4 1958 April 24 2020
John Edward “Scooter” Grimmett passed unexpectantly at home on April 24, 2020. He was born in Fort Worth, Texas on December 4, 1958. He was a Fort Worth boy thru and thru. He graduated from O.D. Wyatt High School in 1977. Growing up Scooter was hardly separated from his best friend Ronnie Jeffress. To the extent that they were injured on the same play during a high school football game, that sent them both to the hospital. Scooter had a love for sports. He played high school baseball along with football. He went on to played softball for many years. The top sports he followed were football, baseball and hockey. But he would watch anything from curling to frisbee golf. But his love was anything Arkansas Razorbacks. A close second was Dallas Stars Hockey. Well hockey in general. Hockey was a big factor in how he met his wife Lisa Malee Beloate. Scooter and Lisa had both, unknowingly, been attending Fort Worth hockey games for years. After games the Burgundy Tree was a popular watering hole for fans and players. One night in February 1980 they both went to the Burgundy Tree and their fates were set. A few months later, after a game they went to a gathering at players Les Auge and Merlyn Malinowskie’s apartment. As the night went on Merely was juggling eggs in the kitchen, Scooter sat Lisa up on the stove and asked, “What do you think about getting married?” She replied, “I think that sounds great, but not tonight.” Overhearing the conversation Merlyn dropped the eggs. June 27, 1981 they were married. This June would have been their 39th anniversary. They enjoyed traveling. They spent many summers in Lake City, Colorado. They traveled all over the United States as far as Alaska, where Lisa is from. But also, to resorts in the Bahamas and Cozumel Mexico and a cruise to Mexico with friends and family members. On January 6, 1988 they were blessed with twins. John Sterling and Malee Jewell. Scooter and Sterling went on several football or baseball trips together. Malee and Scooter were “hockey buddies”. They went up to Denver together to watch a couple Stars games. Scooter and Lisa were very happy when Malee married Caleb Caviness on April 4, 2009. But they were doubly blessed when Malee had twin girls on March 3, 2010. Alice and Jewell were the apple in Daddo’s eyes. He loved those girls more then can be expressed with words. Scooter worked many years for Winn Dixie installing and remodeling their stores. In 1989 he started working with Lisa at her family’s business, Beloate’s Aircraft Trim, Inc. He started with managing the awning department and later became the General Manager over production. Scooter has a large extended family that is very close. He will be greatly missed by family and friends alike. Due to the Covid 19 epidemic we will not be having any services at this time. As soon as the “shelter in place” orders are lifted we will be having a Celebration of Scooters life. Be ready for a good ol Irish wake!! A lot of laughing, a little crying and a lot of storytelling. Scooter was preceded in death by his mother and father, Theresa Rose Hannon and John Dolph Calvin Grimmett. He is survived by his wife Lisa Malee Grimmett, sister Loretta Grimmett Galloway and husband Myles Galloway, son John Sterling Grimmett, daughter Malee Jewell Caviness and son-in-law Caleb Caviness, granddaughters Alice Rose and Jewell Marie Caviness. Not to mention many extended family members and loving friends. We will pass that information for Scooters Celebration of Life as soon are the restrictions are lifted.
