John Douglas Osburn was born in Paris, TX, on September 27, 1931. He was raised in Clarksville, (Red River County) TX. John graduated from Southern Methodist University with a BA/BS and MA. He studied for a year in London (1963); taught at Dimple Consolidated School, TX; Paris Junior College; Panhandle State, Goodwell, OK; and University of Missouri at Kansas City, MO, before coming to the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO), where he taught British and European History for 41 years. Among his many interests were photography, stamp collecting, coin collecting, and animal welfare. He was an active Mason at Oklahoma City Lodge #36 and Edmond Lodge #32. He was a 32nd Degree KCCH Mason. One of Dr. Osburn’s abiding interests was the History of the Red River County, TX. He contributed a number of historical articles to the Southwestern Historical Quarterly and other publications about Red River County. He also wrote articles on Southern (USA) history and British history. John was proceeded in death by his parents, Mr. Randolph Osburn and Eva LaVerne Lasater Osburn of Clarksville, TX. He is survived by his nephew, Randy Osburn lll, nieces, cousins, and numerous friends. Service arrangements for John are currently pending.
