Obituary John Bernard Paschal went to be with his Savior on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 Bernard was born on July 2, 1924, to John Tom and Lois Hardy Paschal in River View, Alabama. He was the eldest of four children. On October 19, 1945 he married the love of his life, Mildred Lois Williams. They enjoyed over 69 years of a happy marriage. Bernard is survived by two daughters, Juanita Leak, Carrollton, Georgia and Janice (Tommy) Fields, Valley, Alabama and his daughter-in-law, Dawn Paschal, Five Points, Alabama. Grandchildren David (Emily) Leak, Shelby (Mark) Cooper, Carrollton, Georgia and Brookelynn Paschal, the second love of his life, Five Points, Alabama. Great Grandchildren: Logan Leak, Jonathan Leak, Nathan Leak, Kathryn Leak, Alyssa Cooper and Andrew Cooper, all of Carrollton, Georgia. Sister, Linda Lashley Ray, Valley, Alabama and sister-in-law, Jean Williams, Opelika, Alabama and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred Williams Paschal, his son John David Paschal, parents John Tom and Lois Paschal, two brothers Thomas Wilburn Paschal and Calvin Lamar Paschal, son-in-law Douglas Paul Leak, brother-in-law Milford Williams, sister-in-law Frances Williams, mother-in-law Rosa Williams,, a special grandfather Stephen Hardy, who he credited with saving his life when was a young boy with pneumonia. He was also preceded in death by three special men who served with him in WWll but did not return: 2nd Lt. Charles S Rankin, 1st Sgt Otto L. Carter and 1st Lt Robert E. Meadows. He was an active member of the American Legion, post 67 in Valley. Bernard was employed by West Point Pepperell until his retirement in 1989 after 49 years. Bernard proudly served his country during WWll in the US Army Air Corp as Tech Sergeant, Radio Operator Mech Gunner. He flew 69 missions and never missed a chance to see/board a B-25. He was in the 13th Air Force, 42nd Bomb Squad, and 69th Bomb Squadron. He enjoyed attending reunions with his unit in many states. He was always accompanied by members of his family. He was charter member of Friendship Christian Church where he taught Sunday school for many years and served as deacon and then elder for many years. He also served as Elder Emeritus. He always set a fine Christian example for others to follow. He was a wonderful and loving husband to his wife, a loving father and grandfather and a friend to those fortunate enough to know him. He was known for always having a heartwarming smile. He also enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling, playing table tennis and relaxing in his swing under the huge pecan tree that he and his grandfather planted. He and his family enjoyed so many years, so many memories and so much love. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Friendship Christian Church, 1101 California Street, Valley, Alabama.
