James’ Obituary James Edgar Ross, 85, a resident of Asheboro, NC was called home on Wednesday, April 1, 2020. James was born July 2, 1934, to Arthur and Emily Ross in Brooklyn, NY. James served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. While serving in the U. S. Marine Corp he married Helen Geralds, on June 21, 1956. They were blessed to share 53 years of marriage before she proceeded him in death in 2009. After his military service, he became a Dyer, a job he remembered fondly. He joined the New York City Transit Authority in 1968 as a Bus Driver and soon rose to the position of Motorman until his retirement in 1988. James was an active member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church where in his youth he was a member of a Gospel Quartet and taught Sunday School for fifteen years. Upon retiring, James and Helen relocated to Asheboro, North Carolina where they joined John Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church where he served as a trustee. James was a history buff and enjoyed discussing WW II and politics. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially eating Blue Crab. He was a real Do-It-Yourselfer taking on jobs around the house and on his cars. He loved listening to music. He will be dearly missed by his family. James is survived by his sons Gary Ross (NY) and Russell Ross (NC), his daughters Rebecca (Gregory) McDowell (NJ), Deborah Ross (NY) and Yvette (Raymond) Padilla (PA); his grandchildren Jessica Padilla (VA) and Paige Padilla (PA) and Gregory J. McDowell (NJ); his sister Carol Oatman (SC) and a host of generations of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Rest in Peace Read More
