Gladys’ Obituary Gladys Woodward Lumby, age 91, of Sioux Falls, SD, died on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at Ava’s House by Sanford Health in Sioux Falls. Private funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls with burial to follow at Hills of Rest Cemetery in Sioux Falls. Her funeral will be available to watch online on Wednesday at 10:00 AM. Please check back for a link to this event. Gladys Arlene Johnson daughter of William and Lena (Schnepf) Johnson was born on March 4, 1929 by Holland, Minnesota on her grandparents’ farm. Her family moved around a lot before settling by Summit, SD where she graduated from high school in 1948. Gladys was united in marriage with Charles “Chuck” Woodward on June 17,1948, and was blessed with 2 children, Karen and Susan. Charles died in 1966. Gladys then met and married Hubert Lumby on June 1, 1970. Gladys worked for 35 years at Shipley’s Laundry and Dry Cleaning before retiring in 1995. Gladys was a faithful member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls, where she loved helping out were ever there was a need. Gladys enjoyed playing scrabble, cross word puzzles, camping, fishing, traveling with her family. Above all, Gladys loved spending time with her family; especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandson. Gladys was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who will be dearly missed. Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter, Karen (Ed) Hegdahl, Sioux Falls, SD; four grandsons, Brian (Marsha) Hegdahl, Steve (Kim) Hegdahl, Sioux Falls, SD, Mike (Stacey) Wehling, Jim (Jill) Wehling, all of Omaha, NE; six great-grandchildren, Kristina (Youssef) Ben Saida, Yuma, AZ, Megan Hegdahl, Merrill, IA, Hannah Hegdahl Sioux Falls, SD, John, Max and Ben Wehling, Omaha, NE; one great-great grandson, Aiden Ben Saida, Yuma, AZ; two sisters-in-laws, Lucille Johnson, Des Moines, IA and Francis Morehouse, Bristol, SD; many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lena Johnson, two husbands: Charles Woodward, Hubert Lumby; her daughter, Susan Wehling; son-in-law, Tom Wehling; six brothers, Melvin, Loren, Ken, Dale, Duane and Merle Johnson; two sisters, Virginia Venenga and Lucy Mason, and their spouses.
