Gilbert E. Mazziotti, 97, of Murrysville, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2020. He was born September 30, 1922 in Blacklick, a son of the late Michael and Celesta Libbinetti Mazziotti and was also preceded in death by his loving wife Edith “Rita” (Comunale) Giordano Mazziotti, his longtime companion Betty Sampsell, and siblings Joseph L. (Louise), John A. (Jay), and Paul (Wanetta) Mazziotti and Jenny (Jim) Cuffia. Gil was a retired driver for Jackson Welding Supply, Pittsburgh. He was a proud WWII Marine Corps veteran having served from September of 1942 until December of 1945. He was a combat infantryman participating in the Battle of Okinawa, going ashore April 3, 1945 and remaining there till the war was over. He was a member of the American Legion Post 711, Murrysville and was a big Pittsburgh sports fan. He is survived by his loving family Vincent J. (Mary Lou) Giordano, Antoinette (George) Burdell, and Janice P. Gerasole; his grandchildren Deana (Doug) Smeltz, Lori Ann Burdell, James S. (Dorre) Burdell, and Stacy Gerasole; his great grandchildren Aubree (Andrew) Churilla, Luke Smeltz, Savanah Burdell, Jordan (Hannah), and Rachel, and Jacob Incerpi; great great granddaughters Davina and Thea Churilla; also numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Betty’s family, children, Bob Sampsell, Bill Sampsell, Debra Wilson, and the late Dave Sampsell; daughter in law Linda Sampsell; grandchildren Lindsey Raiden, Lynn Sampsell, and Donald Sampsell; and great granddaughter Carmen Sampsell. Due to the pandemic, viewing and services will be private. A memorial Mass will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Good Shepherd Cemetery.
