Gerald’s Obituary Childers, Gerald Eldon of Flushing, MI, age 94, died on Wednesday April 23, 2020. There will be no funeral services due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Burial services with immediate family will take place at Flushing Cemetery Monday, April 27, 2020. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association. Gerald was born in Flushing, Michigan on September 29, 1925, the son of Clare and Clarice (Davis) Childers. He married Lyla Jean Kinnee on September 3, 1949 in Lansing, Michigan. Gerald served with the US Army Air Corps during World War II. Gerald was a graduate of Michigan State University and worked as the City Planner and Zoning Administrator for the City of Flint for over thirty years. He enjoyed researching family genealogy and loved spending time with the Friday Night Dinner Crew. Gerald found his greatest pride and joy from being with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gerald is survived by son Ross and wife Lynette Childers, daughter Melissa Childers, grandchildren, Brett and Melanie Behan, Adam Childers, Amy Childers and Dan Hungerford, Megan and Ben Helliwell, Sadie and Jay Southard, Hanna and Derek Lucero; Step-grandchildren Jennifer and Damon McCord, Jason and Tonya Potter; great-grandchildren Mikayla and Bradley Helliwell, Annabelle and Asher Lucero, Caedan and Kieran McCord, Liam and Rowen Potter, sister Carol Schmidt and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years Lyla Jean (Deanie) Kinnee Childers, daughter Michele Behan and husband Michael, parents Clare and Clarice Childers, stepmother Lula Childers, in-laws Otto and Emily Kinnee, sisters Lois and Dale Hartz, Barbara Childers; brother in laws Ralph Schmidt, Arlie and Doreen Kinnee.
