November 27 1924 April 18 2020
Beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Alta Florene Pippin Robinson died Saturday, April 18, 2020, at age 95. She was born on November 27, 1924, the third child and oldest daughter of Claude Curtis Pippin and Maudie Lee Davis Pippin. Flo graduated from Munday High School in Munday, Texas, and married William Ernest “Bill” Robinson, Jr. on February 8, 1944. After the war, while Bill worked in Texas, Florida, and Alabama as a flight instructor, Flo raised their four children, kept a beautiful home, and collected antiques. She performed volunteer work and was a member of the Junior League in Dothan, Alabama. She also was a garden club enthusiast, serving as President of the Dothan Federation of Garden Clubs and winning the Sweepstakes trophy in the creative division of the annual flower show three times. The family also lived in Charlotte, North Carolina for a year before relocating to Lubbock, Texas, in 1969. Flo loved flowers and gardening. She was an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed trips to the mountains and the beach. She also enjoyed cooking, creating her “secret recipe” barbeque sauce, and baking the best sour cream pound cake on the planet (which her family called “Nana cake” in her honor). Later in life, she traveled internationally, to Paris, Italy, Australia, and Vanuatu, and she taught herself to paint in oils. Bill and Flo were married for 53 years before his death in January 1997. She is also preceded in death by her parents; oldest daughter, Margery Lee Robinson Hester; daughter-in-law Michelle Morris Robinson; brothers Clifford, Jack, and Wallace Pippin; and great-grandson Ridge Hester. She is survived by brothers Willis Pippin and John Pippin (and wife Trilles); sisters Rose Pippin Hipp and Sue Pippin Braden; sons Maj. William Curtis Robinson, USAF (retired) and John Patrick Robinson; daughter Rosemary Robinson Williams, and son-in-law R. Lee Williams, M.D. She is also survived by four grandchildren, MSgt. John William “Jack” Hester, USAF (and wife Amy), Kimberly Diane Hester, Curtis Ryan Williams, and Harrison Davis Williams, and by six great-grandchildren: Aubrie Hernandez, Jaxon Hester, Rylee Hester, Madeline Huffstetler, Theron Hester-Payne, and Juliana Kincaid. Flo lived a long, fruitful, happy life. To the end, she loved her “pink” wine, her Bluebell ice cream, orchids, and red roses, as well as the occasional lobster and champagne. She was a great lady, and we will miss her. Visitation will be Friday, April 24, 2020, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Sanders Funeral Home, 1420 Main Street, Lubbock, Texas 79401, following Covid-19 precautions.
