Thompson, 88, of Tinbridge Hill finalized this round of her earthly journey. She was preceded in death by her mother, Alice K. Scott; her father, Arthur L. Dennis; her sister, Maggie D. Hill and her beloved niece, Alice Hill Gaines. She is survived by two nephews, Melvin and Arthur Hill; one great-niece, Stephany Hill; two great-nephews, Rainard Gaines and Samuel Gaines and a host of other cousins and great nieces and nephews. When you ask how she was doing, Evelyn was known to always respond, “oh fine, fine. Nothing hurts I’m just movin’ slow.” Evelyn D Thompson started work at the age of 12 at the bakery with one of her closest friends making 25 cents an hour. When she was of age she worked at the old general hospital where she loved assisting patients. When they built the current Lynchburg General building, Evelyn continued to work at the hospital with neighbors and rode the city bus from Tinbridge Hill. Hardworking and committed to seeking more opportunities, she left the hospital and started working for Patron. Eventually her job relocated outside of the bus route. Not one to be easily deterred, she finally bought her first car. Cautious as she was, she asked the salesman to drive it home for her. After a layoff, Evelyn immediately bounced back and was gainfully employed by J. Crew where her hard work and dedication was noted and applauded by co-workers, supervisors, and even the president of the company. Throughout her life, Evelyn was one who loved her work, excelled in it, and appreciated every opportunity. We will all miss Evelyn’s straightforward personality, but as she would always say: “this life is not the end.” “In the infinity of life where I am, all is perfect, whole, and complete. I support myself and life supports me. I see evidence of the law working around me and in every area of my life. I reinforce that which I learn in joyous ways. My day begins with gratitude and joy. I look forward with enthusiasm to the adventures of the day, knowing that in my life, all is good. I love who I am and all that I do I am the living, loving, joyous expression of Life. All is well in my world.” Print Obituary
