Evelyn Claus, age 99, of Pipestone, Minnesota, formerly of Ocheyedan, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2020 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Pipestone, Minnesota. Private Graveside Services will be at Ocheyedan Township Cemetery at a later date. Evelyn Louise Claus was born on August 26, 1920, the youngest of five children, born to Herman and Ida (Schmidt) Glade. She lived on a farm north of Ocheyedan, IA. Evelyn was baptized, confirmed and attended school at Zion Lutheran Church. Evelyn attended high school in Ocheyedan and continued on to college in Cedar Falls, IA. She then taught in a one room school house south of Ocheyedan. She worked out in California for several years, then during World War II she returned to Iowa to work at a defense plant in Burlington. Returning home to Ocheyedan she worked in the Worthington, MN Red Owl store. Later she worked in the Ocheyedan Red Owl store for many years. Evelyn married Erwin “Ervie” Claus on September 21, 1947, at Zion Lutheran Church. God blessed them with three children and 52 years of marriage. Ervie passed away on September 27, 1999. Evelyn lived in the same house for 67 years. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church of Ocheyedan and spent a great deal of her spare time making quilts for World Relief with the church quilting group. In 2014, due to health reasons, Evelyn moved to Stoneybrook Suites Asst. Living, in Brookings, SD. On May 30th of 2018, she moved to the Good Samaritan Society, long term care home in Pipestone, MN. Evelyn was called to her heavenly home with her LORD and Savior at the age of 99 years, 8 months and 24 days on April 19, 2020. Evelyn is lovingly remembered by her three children and their spouses: Ginny and Vic Milas of Hanover Park, IL, Kevin Claus of Sioux Falls, SD, and Nancy and Ron Boeke of Pipestone, MN; 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Alta Mae Claus; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, two brothers, two sisters, and beloved parents.
