Obituary Esther C. Hartzell, age 91, formerly of Second Street, Espy, died at 7:25 a. m. Friday, April 24, 2020 at the Grandview Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Danville, where she was a patient. Born in Shamokin on November 6, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Louisa (Bowman) Zimmerman. She was raised by her uncle and aunt, Arthur and Lulu (Fox) Zimmerman in Rupert. She spent most of her life in the Bloomsburg area and was a 1946 graduate of Bloomsburg High School. She resided in Espy from 1949 to 2015. Esther was employed at the former J. C. Penney Store in Bloomsburg as a sales clerk for 16 years, retiring in January, 1991. Earlier she was employed at the former Letterman’s Bakery Shop in Bloomsburg for 11 years. She was a longtime member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and the Bloomsburg Hospital Auxiliary. Esther loved to read and enjoyed baking cookies for her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, K. Paul Hartzell, on June 20, 1992 and by two sisters: Ruth Gilmartin in December, 2018 and an infant, Naomi Zimmerman, in 1926. Esther is survived by two children: Debby, wife of Greg L. Owen, Tualatin, Ore. and Dennis L. Hartzell, and his wife Bonnie, of Danville; seven grandchildren: Kevin Owen, Todd Owen, Hannah Hartzell, Leah Hartzell, Jacob Hartzell, Mattie Hartzell, Daniel Hartzell and by five great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at the New Rosemont Cemetery in Espy at a later date and time. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W.
