Obituary PELLEGRINO, Edward Sr., 69, of Cranston, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2020 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Joseph Mario and Pasqualena (Massarone) Pellegrino. Ed enlisted in the US Marine Corps on October 7, 1968 at the age of 17. He received an honorable discharge in May of 1970 and continued to serve in the Reserves until October 4, 1974 as an Engineering Equipment Operator. Ed received the National Defense Service Medal, a Good Conduct Medal and the Rifle Sharpshooters Badge. Ed’s trade school education and time served in the Military, prepared him for a 30 year career in Auto Mechanics, Inspections and Auto Body Management. From 1990-1999 he became the Auto Body Manager at Viti Mercedes of Middletown, followed by Body Shop Manager of Metro Collision Center and Barry’s RT 18 Collision Center from 1999-2004. From 2004 to 2018, until he was no longer able to work, he was a Master Gunsmith/Owner and Operator of RI Gunsmith & Reload, LLC. In lieu of Graduating from High School, Ed continued to self-educate, earning a multitude of various certifications and accreditations as follows: State of RI DOT Certified Vehicle Inspector, GED completed 12/11/1990, Certified and Master Gunsmith, AAGSR (American Association of Gunsmith and Re-loaders), AAGSR Member with $20,000 Professional Bond Certification, Certification Ammunition Developer, Master Firearms Instructor, Discrimination Shooting Instructor, Women’s Shooting Instructor, Youth Safety Instructor, Police and Military Instructors Association of America, Background Investigator Agency, North American Hunting Club Certificate of Life Membership, NRA Instructor, NRA Chief Range Safety Officer and a Certificate of Appreciation Cranston Police Union Local #301. Besides Firearms, Ed’s passion and hobbies include his family, friends, pets, Harley’s, and in his younger days….FAST cars! He is survived by a daughter, Nicole Lee Kelly and her husband Tommy of Wendell, North Carolina and two grandchildren, Jayden (Princess Jay) and TJ and a son, Edward J. Pellegrino Jr. of Johnston. He was the beloved brother of Barbara Ann Winters and her late husband Richard of West Warwick, Kenneth A. Pellegrino and his wife Patricia of West Warwick, JoAnn M. (Pellegrino-Lancia) Lafitte and her husband James of West Warwick, Mary Ellen Zavota of North Scituate and Joseph R. Pellegrino and his wife Sandy of Hope Valley and was the beloved uncle of Kristen Pellegrino, Gina Marie Lancia-Racine, Joseph D. Lancia, Joseph and Gianna Zavota and Olivia and John Pellegrino.. Due to the current COVID 19 restrictions in place, his funeral service and interment in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery will be private for the family.
