Donald Fredrick, of Bolingbrook IL died Saturday, March 28, 2020 in Bolingbrook Hospital after finally succumbing to a long fight with stage 4 esophagus cancer. Don passed peacefully after listening to his favorite versions of Hallelujah and being told by his family how much he was loved. Born in Elmhurst, IL, February 10, 1949, to Leonard and Violet Fredrick, Don was a jack of all trades, from Firefighter/Paramedic to Pipefitter/HVAC/Boiler Specialist. He spent many years referring High School Girls and Boys Basketball and Umpiring High School and College Baseball. He even had the excitement of being an umpire in a movie “Rookie of the Year” Don was a loving husband of 43 years and great father. Don loved sports and loved watching his son and daughters play sports when they were younger. He would practice with them and even assisted in coaching or umpire/referring their park district games. As they all grew out of playing, they still would spend time going to games or watching them on TV. Don loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and camping with his kids and later loved introducing the grandkids to the outdoors. He loved to be with the family at the zoo, fishing or even just hanging out at amusement parks. Don took great pride in teaching his son and daughters about gun safety and started them very young on archery. He enjoyed shooting trap and skeet with his eldest daughter at Downers Grove Sportsmen’s Club in Morris, IL where he has been a member for many years and held a few board positions. As his illness became stronger and he was unable to shoot DGSC made Don an Honorary member and in the last year he was placed in the DGSC Hall of Fame. Don a slightly smaller Disney fan compared to his wife of 43 loving years would never hesitate to make the ultimate trip to Disney and very seldomly complained when she wished to watch the Harry Potter series one more time. He even went along and smiled and joined in the fun for the big trip to Universal when Harry Potter opened in Orlando. Don is survived by his wife, Cheryl, his daughters Debra and Christine and his son David; his daughter-in-law Katrina; his grandkids Amber, Sophia, Logan and Daniel; and his fur grandson Clyde. Preceded in death by his parents and many four legged companions that we hope he has joined back with. At this time there is no scheduled visitation, a memorial will be planned for a later date.
