Dolores’ Obituary Before Reusable Rockets in 2017, PlayStation (’95), the Walkman (’80), the Internet (’69), Pacemaker (’58), Color TV (’40), Sunglasses (’29) and the Band-Aid (’21) and months before the first radio station Delores Schiller of New Ulm and previously rural Courtland was born. Delores passed away March 22, 2020 at Ridgeway on German just 24 days shy of her 100th birthday with her beloved and devoted daughters, Brenda and Karen nearby. Delores a wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, cook, 4H leader, bowler and card player was full of love and lived her life with humor. Born April 15, 1920 at home in rural Searles to Emil and Hattie (Jahncke) Lunz, she attended rural school district 51 through the 8th grade and began working in the laundry room at the New Ulm Hospital when she was 15. Delores met the love of her life, Duane Schiller, at a dance at the Courtland Dance Hall. They were married Aug 25, 1939. She and Duane started their dairy farm in Courtland township with 10 cows and a few pigs in 1949. Together they farmed in rural Courtland weathering every storm, natural or economic, with humility and tenacity. Their partnership produced a flourishing and often emulated farm. It was there they raised their daughters, Brenda and Karen. Delores was an active mom and hosted the initial meeting of the Courtland 4-H club. She made a house a home. Known for her unparalleled cooking her home was always open to friends and family. Coffee was always on. Fresh bread from the oven was waiting for Brenda and Karen after school. Overnight Buns, Creamed Chicken, German Chocolate Cake and German Potato Salad were just a few of her grandchildren’s favorites. She loved the farm, gardening, a good Brandy Press, a funny off colored joke, her card and sewing clubs that ran for over 50 years and any opportunity to play cards with anyone who was game. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren loved her hugs, candy drawer and kind and gentle ways. Delores Louise (Luntz) Schiller was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, Duane, her parents, her brothers and sisters in law George (Lita) Lunz, Leland (Rita) Lunz; sisters and brothers in law Thusnelda (Bill) Koenig, Charlotte (Harry) Carlson; father and mother in law Joseph and Dina Schiller, brothers in laws and sisters in laws Melvin (Edith) Schiller, Perl (Raymond) Ringsdorf, Lavern (Lester) Lowinske; Ruth (Sam) Schmidt and son in law Donald Block and nephew Dean Schmidt Delores is survived by her daughters Brenda Block of New Ulm and Karen (James) Kretsch of Vero Beach, FL; Grandchildren Jill (Milt) Fitzel , Bradley (Sue) Block, Lisa ( Kevin) Blacksten of Rosemount, MN; Christine (Jeff) Grev of Austin , MN; James (Jane) Kretsch JR of Lakeville, MN; Desiree (Brian) Hester of Anthem, AZ; 11 great grandchildren and 5 great, great grandchildren, along with many nephews and nieces. She was loved and will be long remembered and missed as our Grandma and Grandpa on the Farm memories go on forever. Private services will be held at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Timothy Smith Officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.
