Davies, 89, of Westover and formerly of Wilmington, DE, died Friday, March 20, 2020 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home. Born in England on October 17, 1930, he was a son of the late Norman and Louisa Davies. He had been making his home in Westover since 2009. While in England, he was a Petty Officer in the British Navy serving 8 years. He worked 25 years at DuPont in Wilmington as a Millwright and retired in 2009. Derek was an antique car enthusiast and enjoyed taking his cars to car shows. He enjoyed working in his yard, gardening, and loved his family. He especially adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Una Elizabeth Davies of Westover; two sons, Andrew Davies (the late Gloria Davies) of Milford, DE and Phillip Davies of Shelltown; a sister, Carol Walker (William “Bill”) of England; a brother, Norman Davies of England; grandchildren, Rebecca Gsell (Travis) of Worton, MD and Matthew Davies (Candice) of Milford, DE; great-grandchildren, Emma and Adeline Gsell; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
