Dennis Gerald Brewer, Sr. of Irving, Texas June 21, 1930 – April 28, 2020 Dennis Gerald Brewer, Sr., age 89 of Irving, a long-time attorney, went home to be with the Lord early Tuesday morning, April 28, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. Born June 21, 1930 in Dallas, Texas, he was the son of the late J. D. Brewer and Alice Lee Mook Brewer. He attended Rosemont Elementary, Greiner Middle School and Sunset High School. He graduated from Southern Methodist University with his law degree in 1954, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He married Zodie Sue Bell June 9, 1954 at Perkins Chapel at SMU. He was the former City Attorney and prosecutor in Irving 1957-1965; Attorney for Irving Independent School District 1959-1970. He had served as President of the Friends of the Library in Irving. He practiced law in 30 counties in the US as well as in Mexico, Canada, and Israel. In private law practice for over 60 years, he and his law firm Brewer, Brewer, Suggs, Anthony, Middlebrook and Associates, has received the highest rating given. He had the privilege of representing well known Christian Ministries including, Benny Hinn of Orlando, FL, Jimmy Swaggart of Baton Rouge, T. D. Jakes of Dallas, Trinity Broadcasting, Tommy Barnett of Phoenix, Marcus and Joni Lamb, J. Don George of Irving and Mike Evans. He was a member of the Irving Bar Association, Dallas Bar Association, Texas Bar Association and was a charter member of the Dallas County Bar Association. He served on the Board of Directors of the Ring and Brewer Store in Dallas. Of his many profile cases, he tried the most cited Family Law Case giving the Court authority to award unequal division of community property and chastising the Trial Judge; got verdict of Divorce Not Granted in a No Fault Divorce; tried murder case for 18 year old Donald Maury Davis (Now retired from Senior Pastor and founder of Cross Roads Assembly of God Church, the largest church in Nashville, Tennessee) ; did research for Oral Roberts; tried law suit for the General Council of the Assemblies of God; represented Pat Boone of Beverly Hills, CA; opened and closed approximately 10,000 cases during his 60 year law practice; was President of Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship for seven years; served on the Board of Directors of Calvary Church in Irving; and was the author of a book entitled To Hell with Justice, To Heaven with Faith and Grace. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Sue Bell Brewer of Irving; son Dennis “Denny” Brewer, Jr. and wife Sueda of Irving; daughters, Susan Burkman and husband Jack of North Richland Hills, Brenda Grace Barth and husband Jamie, Sr. of Rancho Palos Verdes, California; Roxanne Suggs of Irving, Rachael McClelland and husband Mark of Carrollton, and Rebekah Mitchell and husband Byron of Irving; fourteen grandchildren, Alexandra Franklin and husband Andrew, Mackenzie Brewer and husband Mauricio Lafuente, David Harden, Natalie Gary and husband Pastor Jeff Gary, Jamie Barth, Jr. and wife Cassidy, Jason Barth and wife Aubra, Jeremy Barth, Elizabeth Suggs, Kathryn Suggs, Jimmy Suggs and wife Elizabeth, Jesikah Suggs, Mark McClelland, Jr. and wife Holly, Mia and husband Michael and Byron Mitchell and wife Anna; thirteen great grandchildren, Augustine Franklin, Arik Franklin, Hudson Gary, Brewer Gary, Silas Gary, Sawyer Gary, Jameson Barth, Addison Barth, Jackson Barth, Jewel Barth, Jay Barth, Harper Suggs, and Elias Mitchell; a sister Janet Schuurman and husband Phil of Dallas; a sister-in-law, Betty Grace Bell of Minden, Nevada; and many loving nieces and nephews. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents J. D. and Alice Lee Brewer; a son-in-law, Jim Suggs, and a grandson, Jonathan Mitchell. A come and go visitation will be held 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2020 at Donnelly’s Colonial Funeral Home, 606 West Airport Freeway in Irving. Even though COVID-19 Restrictions are eased, the funeral home suggests masks and sensible social distancing be used and observed with only 50 people allowed in the building at a time. A private family service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2020 at Donnelly’s Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor J. Don George officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, 1413 East Irving Blvd.
