Clarence’s Obituary Clarence Hill, Sr. was born on June 2, 1919 in Eudora, Arkansas. He gave his life to God at the age of twelve. He married Mary Hill on June 24, 1941 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. They moved to Gary, Indiana in 1942 and went to work for United States Steel for 33 years until his retirement. He joined Van Buren Baptist Church in 1943 under the Reverend J.F. Jordan. He served as a member of the church choir, men’s choir, and Deacon Ministry. Later he joined the United Male Chorus of Gary and Calumet Region. He stayed in the United Male Chorus until his departure in 2012 to move to San Antonio, Texas. Clarence was a cherished member of St. Stephen Baptist Church under Pastor Charles M. Biggs and then Grace First Baptist under Pastor Allen M. Ford. Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Robinson Hill. They were married for seventy-one years. Clarence was also preceded in death by his parents, Bertha Johnson Hill and Benjamin Hill; three brothers, Mansfield, David and George. He leaves to cherish his memory a sister-in-law, Kathryn McFadden of Harvey, Illinois; nine children, Clarence Hill, Jr., Jeanette (Charles) Barnes, Rose Jamison of Gary, Indiana, Raymond (Pamela) Hill of Marietta, Georgia, Paula Lewis of Cleveland, Ohio, Debra Jackson of Miami, Florida, Eugene (Jerry) Hill, Bertha (Donnelle) Ellington, Molina Johnson of San Antonio, Texas; twenty-four grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren all over the world.
