Bernetta Gerdau Petrel, 91, of Adena, OH formerly of Shadyside, OH died Sunday, April 19, 2020 at Wheeling Hospital. She was born August 16, 1928 in Shadyside, a daughter of the late Bernard Joseph and Anna Victorine Wautlet Gerdau. Bernetta was a former assembly line worker at Sunair Electronics and a Catholic by faith. She served in the U.S. Navy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Gerald Harrison Kelley; her second husband, Fred Thomas Petrel, Jr.; two sisters, Maxine Barritt and Patricia Irwin; two brothers, Sherman Thomas Gerdau and David Wayne Gerdau. Surviving are a son, William H. Kelley of Carthage, IL; a daughter, Karen Louise Sonnenberg of Zanesville, OH; three grandchildren, Jeanette Marie Blalock, Damon Sonnenberg and Nina Sonnenberg; four great grandchildren; two great-great grandsons; her siblings, Gerald Gerdau and Walter Gerdau both of Shadyside, Bernard D. Gerdau of Bellaire, OH; Cynthia Edwards of Michigan. As per her request, no visitation of services are planned.
