Bernetta Gerdau Petrel, 91, of Adena, OH formerly of Shadyside, OH died Sunday, April 19, 2020 at Wheeling Hospital. She was born August 16, 1928 in Shadyside, a daughter of the late Bernard Joseph and Anna Victorine Wautlet Gerdau. Bernetta was a former assembly line worker at Sunair Electronics and a Catholic by faith. She served in the U.S. Navy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Gerald Harrison Kelley; her second husband, Fred Thomas Petrel, Jr.; two sisters, Maxine Barritt and Patricia Irwin; two brothers, Sherman Thomas Gerdau and David Wayne Gerdau. Surviving are a son, William H. Kelley of Carthage, IL; a daughter, Karen Louise Sonnenberg of Zanesville, OH; three grandchildren, Jeanette Marie Blalock, Damon Sonnenberg and Nina Sonnenberg; four great grandchildren; two great-great grandsons; her siblings, Gerald Gerdau and Walter Gerdau both of Shadyside, Bernard D. Gerdau of Bellaire, OH; Cynthia Edwards of Michigan. As per her request, no visitation of services are planned. Inurnment of her cremated remains will be entombed in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Arrangements by Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory, Shadyside.
