Anna Szewczyk February 07, 1936 – April 26, 2020 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook Anna Szewczyk (nee Czyszczon), 84, of Edison, entered into eternal rest peacefully on Sunday, April 26, 2020, with her daughter and devoted son-in-law, Ellery, by her side. Born in Chabowka, Poland, she married her beloved husband, Boleslaw, in 1958 before immigrating to the US in 1959. They settled in Irvington, NJ before moving to Edison in 1968. While living the American dream, they kept their Polish heritage strong. Anna loved attending picnics at Polanca and hosted a traditional Wigilia (Christmas Eve), where everyone looked forward to her one of a kind mushroom soup with uszka (dumplings) and indulging in her infamous rum cake. When Anna was not at church, you could find her in her luscious garden, carefully tending to her blooming flowers. It was not uncommon for her to be gardening from morning till dusk and then realize why she was hungry – it was 7pm ! You could find Anna amidst the flashing lights and dinging machines on the casino floors along the Atlantic City Boardwalk, where she was the Queen of the Slots! She enjoyed seeing family and friends at BBQs, visiting with her nieces and nephew, talking with caring neighbors who she considered family, and trips down the shore. Anna loved her annual road trip across the country, when she and her husband would drive to Montana to see her daughter and granddaughter. She was so proud watching her granddaughter Molly excel in all of her activities. During her many travels, she visited national parks, cruised the Caribbean, island hopped Hawaii, and paid homage to her homeland, Poland. Hania, as family and friends knew her, was a parishioner of Our Lady of Peace Church in Fords, NJ, where she faithfully attended mass daily. Her family finds comforts knowing that she will meet her Lord Savior at the Gates of Heaven, along with her husband, who predeceased her in 2007, months shy of celebrating 50 years of marriage, her sister, Wiktoria Gwozdz, who passed in 2016, and her grandson Casey DeMarco, in 1998. Anna was many things to different people, including “Mom,” “Sister,” “Babci,” and “Ciocia.” She leaves behind her two daughters, Marie Steiger and her husband Ellery, of Monroe Township, NJ and Christine DeMarco and her husband Michael, of Great Falls, MT, her dear granddaughter, Molly DeMarco also of Great Falls, MT, her brother, Kazimierz Czyszczon, his wife Felicia, and her nephew Andrew Czyszczon, all of Linden, NJ, her brother-in-law Michal Gwozdz of Edison, NJ, her niece, Alina Williams and her great niece Madison Williams, both of Old Bridge, NJ. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, private funeral services are under the direction of the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords, NJ 08863 . Anna will be laid to rest in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ, on Friday, May 1.
