Obituary Newport, NH: Steven B. Benson, 68, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on March 25, 2020 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on March 17, 1952 in Schenectady, NY to Beulah (Alto) Benson and the late Richard Benson, Sr. Steve and his family moved to Newport at a young age and he has lived in the area most of his life. Steve had many jobs throughout his life, working at Durgin and Crowell, Dorr Woolen and as a carpenter with his father. Steve was always full of life and enjoyed a good party. He liked to dance, play cribbage, go bowling and fishing, throw darts and horseshoes, and spend time with his friends and family. Steve was Vice President of the Sons of the American Legion. Steve loved his friends and family and could always be counted on to be there for people. Steve was predeceased by his father, his wife, Sue (Parizo) Benson, brother, Alex Benson, and grandson, Thomas Simpson, Jr. Surviving family include his mother, Beulah Benson of Newport, children, Tara Benson and her husband, James Richardson of Newport, Theresa Davis and her husband Matthew of Newport, Tracie West of Concord, and Dale West and his wife Sherry of Claremont, sister, Hilda Benson, brothers, Richard Benson, Jr., Brian, Dean, and Kevin Benson, 14 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family members. A celebration of life and memorial service will be held at a later date. Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
