Obituary Richard Jack Lawrence, 90,was born 2-22-1930 in Long Beach, CA. He is survived by his wife Jacquelynn; Children, Patricia w/husband Marty, Gary w/wife Melody, Lori w/husband Don; Grandchildren, Melissa w/husband Alan, Katie, Nicolas, and Honorary Grandson Caleb. Not to mention 9 dogs and a cat. We ALL call him Grandpa. He served his country for 20 years. In his service he belonged to a tight group of EOD fellows also known as The Bomb Squad. Dad was one of very few men trained to disarm nuclear weapons. His insignia bore an extra silver star. He also belonged to a group of men called the Brainiacs who built and operated a nuclear Power test reactor under the Greenland ice cap known as Camp Century. Before retiring in 1968 Dad also operated a 10 Megawatt nuclear power reactor at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH. The story goes he saved that one from a meltdown. He liked Looney Tunes, Red Vines, peanut brittle and cookies by the fist full. He fought a long hard battle against cancer. We LOVE you Grandpa. We could never have had a better person to call GRANDPA. You loved us all. And we love you back. To send flowers to Richard’s family, please visit our floral section.
