Heaven received its newest angel Sunday morning, March 22, 2020 when Loren S. Chard, Sr., life member of Carneys Point Fire & Rescue Company joined the ranks of Heaven’s Firefighters. Born August 28, 1930 in Millville, NJ, he was a graduate of Woodstown High School. He volunteered his service in the United States Army Air Corps after graduation and received an Honorable Discharge. Loren was employed by E.I. DuPont Co. at the Chambers Works Plant where he worked as a NDE Test Technician and retired with 34 years of service in 1985. He is predeceased by his parents, Ida and William Chard, brothers Irvin and Earl Chard, sister June Thorpe, grandchildren Eran and Caleb Brant and Christopher Chard. Loren is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret, a son Loren S. Chard, Jr. (Paula) and daughter Kimberly Shute (George), both of Carneys Point, four grandchildren, Laura Rothwein (Kenny), Gregory Chard, Joshua Brant (Alyssa), and Adam Brant (Mary) and three great grandchildren, Nicholas Rothwein, Levi and Annabelle Brant. Loren enjoyed gardening, summers at the family’s Lake Garrison cottage and time with his family. He served as an active member of the Carneys Point Fire Department for over 50 years. Services will be private at the discretion of the family. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made in honor and memory of Loren to the Carneys Point Fire Department, 258 D Street, Carneys Point, NJ 08069.
