Leo’s Obituary Fairmont, MN Mass of Christian burial for Leo Shumski, age 77, of Fairmont, MN, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2020, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Burial will be following the service in Calvary Cemetery in Fairmont. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2020, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont and will continue one hour prior to the time of service at the church. Leo passed away Monday, February 17, 2020, at the Western Arizona Regional Medical Center in Bullhead City, AZ surrounded by Marie, Jane and Jason. The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements. Leo Joseph Shumski was born on June 2, 1942, in East Chain, MN, the son of Anton and Agnes (Nowak) Shumski. He received his education attending country school and at the age of 16, began his career working as a farm hand for Weldon Ziemann and Ziemann Farms. Leo continued working for the Ziemann’s for the next 59 years, retiring at the age of 75. On February 5, 1963, Leo was united in marriage to Marie Quade. Together the couple would make their home on a farm near Fairmont and were blessed with two children, Paul and Jane. Leo was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. In his youth, Leo enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, and braving the cold Minnesota winters on his snowmobile. The past 10+ years, Leo and Marie enjoyed the warmth of the Arizona Winters returning to Minnesota to enjoy the Summer months. Family was especially important to Leo and he especially treasured spending time with his grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Marie Shumski of Fairmont, MN; daughter, Jane (Jason) Harris of Fairmont, MN; granddaughters, Jayme (Isaac) Abel and Jordyn Strauser (special friend, Brody Meyer); great-grandson, Hayes Abel; step-grandchildren, Nic Harris (special friend, Allyson Cegelske) and Jennifer (Andrew) Staebler; step-great granddaughter, Vanessa Staebler; sisters: Alice Sandt and Lillian Pfannes; brother and sister in-laws: Roger (Nadine) Quade; Shirley Kosbab, Lyder (Jeanette) Quade, Marcella Shumski, Myron (Darlene) Quade, Robert (Bee) Quade, Vi (Randy) Tilk, Dawn (Jeff) Kot and Dave Worden; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
