Grant (Trip)’s Obituary With heavy hearts we say goodbye to our son Trip Wilson who passed away unexpectedly at his home in South Portland on February 22, 2020. Grant William Wilson (Trip) was born in Portland, Maine May 22, 2003, the third son of Grant Lenox Wilson and Kimberly Welch Wilson. He attended Breakwater School as a child and was in his junior year at Waynflete School. Trip is survived by his parents, his two brothers Robert W. Wilson (Bob), 21, Ike Wilson, 19, his Nana, Mary A. Welch of Portland Maine, and his auntie, Tiffany E. Welch of Westbrook, Maine. He also leaves behind aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and many cherished friends. He is predeceased by his grandparents Grant M. and Helene Wilson of Carlisle and Chatham, Massachusetts, and Robert G. Welch of Chatham, Massachusetts. Usually seen wearing one of his trademark bandannas, Trip was a fearless and funny teen, who loved rollercoasters, meatball subs, and playing video games with his older brothers. Trip always loved adventure; in his short life he visited the Galápagos Islands, Morocco, Egypt, and many places in the US with his father and brothers. Trip’s friends describe him as “the glue that held the group together,” possessing a charming ability to connect people who may never have met if not for him. Trip had a dark and unique sense of humor; he minced no words. His kind heart, infectious laugh, twinkling brown eyes, and mischievous smile lit up any room. Trip was looking forward to playing goalie for his lacrosse team this spring and returning to a landscaping job this summer. A celebration of life is tentatively scheduled for the end of March, by invitation. Due to recent public health concerns, the date is tentative. Donations may be made in Trip’s memory to the Trip Wilson Memorial Fund, care of Kim Wilson via TD Banknorth. A foundation to effect social change is to be established. Trip’s presence will be missed profoundly by all who knew him. “Such a long, long time to be gone And a short time to be there.” (Lesh, Hunter) Read More
