Dan grew up in Shelbyville, Kentucky before moving out to California and then finding his permanent home in Sylvania, Ohio. Spending his lifetime in the hospitality industry, he worked his way up from bell boy to hotel general manager, only proving his dedication and desire to succeed. Over the years Dan, like all of us, had his ups and downs but with anything he was going through, he was always first a dad, son, and brother. Always putting others’ needs above his own, Dan managed to light up every room he walked into with a smile and his sense of humor. Being the class clown of sorts, he had always used his overwhelming charisma to spread joy and plenty of smiles to everyone he had met in his lifetime. Those that knew him can vouch for the fact that a conversation with him was never dull nor free of laughter. In tough times, Dan would always find himself picking up the broken pieces, discouraged but never willing to fully give up when life would play him a bad hand. We will all remember his bird calls, jokes, compassion, empathy and overall light with fondness. Dan is survived by his four children, Kacey, Lindsay, Ryan, and Sydney, his best friend Shelly, his two sisters, Faye and Bev, and his three fur-grandbabies. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Betty Douglas. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 29th, 2020 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at Foth-Dorfmeyer Mortuary. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 1st, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Hope United Methodist Church 4069 W. Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, Ohio 43623. Dan will be laid to rest in Crestwood, Kentucky.
