Betty J. Chaplin, 91, of Columbus, passed from this life at 6:08 a.m. Monday, March 16, 2020 at the Columbus Regional Hospital. Betty was born May 1, 1928, in Columbus, the daughter of William and Dessie Mourey Taylor. She married Burnice L. “Slim” Chaplin, September 18, 1948. He preceded her in death September 6, 2007. Mrs. Chaplin retired from Arvin Industries in 1994 after 45 years of service. Survivors include her grandchildren, Kiowa (Lindsey) Chaplin and Jessica (James) Bay; 3 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded by her parents; husband; a son, Gilbert Martin Chaplin; brothers, Roy Taylor and William Taylor; and her sisters, Ruth Cox, Rova Coulter, Dorothy Carnahan and Doraethel Anderson. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Garland Brook Cemetery in section 79 with Jack Taylor officiating. Private family viewing is planned at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street.
