Russell K. Brummett, 83, of Columbus, passed from this life at 2:51 a.m. Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Mr. Brummett was born February 26, 1936, the son of Roscoe B. and Gertrude H. Stader Brummett. Russell married Betty Bennett July 10, 1955. Mr. Brummett retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1998 after 32 years of service. He was a member of The Point in Seymour. A baseball enthusiast, Russell was a former baseball coach at Columbus East High School and a former treasurer for Babe Ruth Baseball League. He was the 1986 head coach for the Babe Ruth All-Stars that participated in the Babe Ruth World Series. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Robert Lemmond officiating. Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to time of service Wednesday at the funeral home. In keeping with Mr. Brummett’s wishes, cremation was planned. The family request that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or American Cancer Society. Survivors include his wife of nearly 65 years; children, Suzanne (Robert) Weddle of Columbus, Catherine Sandlin of Seymour, Cynthia (Glenn) Lawyer of Seymour and Russell “Rusty” K. (Cathy) Brummett of Columbus; grandchildren, Jessica (Adam) Cochran, Sarah Weddle, Jon (Melanie) Sandlin, Joshua Sandlin, Cory (Ali) Lawyer, Keenan Brummett, Klayton Brummett and Kaitlin Brummett; 9 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Peggy (Rick) Gilbert of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Kenneth W. Brummett.
