GROTON: Philip D. Berry, 73, of Groton, formerly of Ayer, died Thursday, January 16, 2020 at the Pat Roche Hospice House, Hingham after a lengthy illness. Phil was born in Boston, September 25, 1946, a son of the late Lester W. and Lucille M. (Bradford) Berry and was a lifelong resident of the Ayer & Groton area. He was a graduate of Lawrence Academy in Groton and continued his education at the University of Alabama, Babson College and later Bryant University. For over thirty years, Phil owned and operated Carlin’s Tavern in downtown Ayer. He enjoyed golfing. Phil leaves his wife of 18 years, Christine, M. Griffin; a son, David W. Berry of Harvard; a daughter, Leslie D. Bridges of Dunellon, FL; four grandchildren, Lucille Bridges, Joshua Bridges, Max Berry and Katherine Berry. He was predeceased by his brother, Lester W. “Sonny” Berry. Services will be held privately. There are no calling hours. The Anderson Funeral Home, 25 Fitchburg Road, Ayer is assisting the family with arrangements.
