John’s Obituary John Fleming, 94, of Minneapolis, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2019, after a brief illness. John and his late wife Margaret, née Morris, were longtime residents of Minneapolis. Born in Wichita, he enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 18. John served as a military policeman in northern France in 1944, followed by two years in Okinawa. Upon returning home, he received a degree in biology from Friends University, followed by medical technology training at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. In 1950, he wed Margaret, and the couple moved to Salinas, California, where he served as the laboratory director of the Monterey County Hospital for 25 years. Upon his retirement, John and Margaret returned to Minneapolis in 1981. John was a member of the Minneapolis Lions Club and the Ottawa County Music Club. He was well known for his rich sense of humor. John was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Ruth Fleming, two brothers, Robert and David, and his wife, Margaret. He is survived by his children, Roger, Karen, Janet and Tom, and five grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 Sunday, January 5 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis. The funeral service will be held Monday at 10:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church, Minneapolis. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Minneapolis Lions Club or the Ottawa County Music Club. Read More
