Obituary Alby Gene Jenkins, 82, of Newton died on Thursday, November 7, 2019, at his home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 13, 2019, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday and again after the service with a lunch at the funeral home. Memorials to St Jude Children’s Hospital or MercyOne Hospice may be left at the funeral home. Alby, the son of Glen and Cleora (Zickel) Jenkins, was born on September 20, 1937 in Newton. He attended Newton schools and served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1956-1964. Alby was united in marriage with Sandra Johnson on November 18, 1967 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He worked at the Maytag Company in Newton for over 26 years, retiring in 1992. Alby was a member of the American Legion Post 111 and the UAW Local 997. He enjoyed yardwork, playing cards with friends and family, and going to the casino. Alby is survived by his wife, Sandie Jenkins of Newton; Tim Jenkins of Newton; his daughter, Vickie Coniglio of Lancaster, California; his grandchildren; sister, Marlene (Duane) Lauber of Newton; sister-in-law, Barbara Reynolds of Ankeny; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Rick Jenkins; son-in-law, Tony Coniglio; and brother-in-law, Harvey Reynolds. To send flowers to Alby’s family, please visit our floral section.
