Violet Mae Winter, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at Arch Rehab in Energy. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 5, 2019, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Rev. Donnie Colson officiating. Burial will be in North Oakwood Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at the funeral home. Violet was born April 8, 1940, in Marion, to Charles and Emma Watson. She married Jack Eugene Winter on September 2, 1956, in Hernando, Mississippi. He preceded her in death on June 7, 2018. Violet is survived by her son, Jack (Reneé) Winter II of Nashville, Tennessee; daughters, Donna Kay Restivo of St. Louis, Rebecca Diane Winter of Johnston City, Jennifer (Bob) Miller of Johnston City, and Crystal (Jimmy) Owens of Scott City, Missouri; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren with 3 on the way; siblings, Mary, Marie and Charles “Bub”; brother-in-law, Tom (Barb) Winter of Orlando, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughters, Valerie June Winter and Sgt. Lesa Winter; son, Jason Jeffrey Winter; and granddaughter, Holly Mae Smith. Violet had an extensive career spanning various jobs. She was a LPN who had served as a school nurse for several years. Later, she worked in retail sales for a variety of stores, where she enjoyed assisting the customers and the conversations that would accompany. Her greatest role was that of a caregiver to her family. Violet instilled confidence and compliments into her family, giving them a lasting legacy. Violet was a talented baker who was known for her Christmas cookies, press cookies, divinity, and specialty birthday cakes. She enjoyed volunteering her time, especially with Meals on Wheels. Violet also liked to research genealogy with her husband Jack.
