Kathryn E. Mulcahy, 91, passed away Saturday evening October 19, 2019 at Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport. She was born in Newburyport on April 4, 1928 to the late Ernest and Mildred (Naimie) Walton. She was raised in Newburyport and was a graduate of Newburyport High School before receiving a degree from UMass Amherst. In 1951, she married the late Ralph Mulcahy, and moved to Salisbury Beach, where they raised their family. They moved to Amesbury in 1964 where they lived for 55 happy years. She was able to stay at home with her children, a job she cherished as nothing gave her more joy than spending time with her family. She also got a lot of satisfaction tutoring children with learning disabilities. Kathryn and Ralph owned a home in North Conway, NH where she enjoyed many years with family & friends. Kathryn was a woman of many passions, including horseback riding, bridge, travel, skiing, and golf. Her love for travel took her from safaris in Africa to riverboats in Europe to ski trips in the Alps to sailing trips in the Caribbean. As she always said, “I’m a lucky old lady!” Kathryn is survived by her children, Terry Lee Avallon and her husband John of Beverly, and Brian Mulcahy and his wife Rebecca of Amesbury; grandchildren, Jeffrey Avallon and his wife Kristie, Gregory Avallon and his wife Marisa, Jennifer Avallon Lewis and her husband Ryan, Tucker Mulcahy, and Carter Mulcahy; 2 great grandchildren Sloane Avallon and Marin Avallon; sister, Erin Walton of Newburyport; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents Kathryn was predeceased by her husband Ralph Mulcahy; son, Jeffrey Francis Mulcahy; and sister, Winifred Stone. Funeral services and burial will be private. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Mrs. Mulcahy’s family with her funeral arrangements.
