Joan’s Obituary Joan R. Larson, 88, Kenmare, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2019 at the Mohall Good Samaritan Nursing Home. Joan R. Weber was born on April 21, 1931, in Underwood, ND the daughter of Rev. Lorenz and Alma (Ohrenberg) Weber. She was raised in Underwood and graduated from Underwood High School in 1949. Joan furthered her education by attending the Minot State Teachers College, where she earned her Standard Teaching Certificate. She then taught at the Kenmare Public School from 1951-1953. On October 18, 1953, Joan was united in marriage to John D. Larson at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Underwood. In 1969, Joan returned to teaching at the Kenmare Public School, she also returned to Minot State College and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1973. She would remain at Kenmare School until her retirement in 1997 and continued as a substitute for many years. She was a faithful member of Nazareth Lutheran Church, serving as the dedicated church organist for close to 50 years, playing her final church service in February of 2016. For the last four years she has battled with dementia, but was able to remain in her home while her son Keith cared for her needs. She is survived by: Children: Cathy (Dave) McDermott, Minot, Tim (Judy) Larson, Turtle Lake and Keith Larson, Kenmare, Diane (Steve) Rinell, Bryan, OH; six grandchildren, Justin McDermott, Sarah (Marc) Fremming, Jacob Larson, Megan Larson, Blake Rinell and Scott (Brittany) Rinell; four great-grandchildren, Sidney Larson, Avery Fremming, Madilynn Rinell and Lillian Rinell. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, husband John D. Larson, sisters and brother-in-laws Elaine (Kenny) Shotwell, Carol (Don) Oie, and a brother Eugene Weber.
